Carry On, Warrior
When I find something that I love, there is nothing better than sharing that something with others. Last night, I finished reading a book that made me laugh out loud and sigh in understanding.
First and foremost, I LOVE the title! Carry On, Warrior! Isn't that great?! I've never thought of myself as a warrior, but something about the idea of keeping on-keeping on but doing so with grit and determination and love... "You had me at hello." Then add the subtitle... no words.
The Power of Embracing Your Messy, Beautiful Life. Yep.
Notice I hadn't even opened the book yet and already I was drawn in That's what a great title can do. Add on the praise statements by 2 inspiring female authors (Brené Brown and Elizabeth Gilbert) that I absolutely adore, and that was it. As a librarian, I'm supposed to tell you not to judge a book by its cover. But I'm not your typical librarian! I knew this book was going to rock. And it didn't disappoint.
Glennon Doyle Melton shares her stories of living. That's it. This isn't a book of advice, steps, strategies, or rules. It's a collection of stories. From the heart. No pretense. No judgement. And spot on. I can't tell you how many times I sat in amazement that Melton's stories are also my stories, and the stories of my girlfriends, and your stories, too. Who of us hasn't felt inadequate? Who of us hasn't been our own harshest critic? The honesty that permeates every page reminds me that I'm ok. I'm not alone in femalehood, wifehood, momhood, friendhood. And neither are you.
Read this book, ladies! Then call me up, message me, text me and let's chat about it!
